HSV203 Introduction to Counseling Professions, Unit 1, Researching Graduate School
As we explored in the reading this week, there are many different options for graduate programs that will support your career goals in helping professions. Take some time to conduct research online and identify at least three graduate programs that you find intriguing or potentially suitable for your future aspirations.
- Provide brief details about each graduate program you found, including the name of the institution, the specific program title or degree offered, and any unique features or aspects that caught your attention. You may also include the link to the program you discuss.
1. The Pastoral Studies and Criminology and Justice at Loyola University New Orleans
“The Pastoral Studies and Criminology and Justice at Loyola University New Orleans is aimed at criminal justice administrators, researchers, and private security professionals as well as those in justice ministries such as such as victim services, prison ministry, re-entry, and delinquency prevention."

- Explain how each program aligns with your career goals and aspirations. Does the program offer the area of specialization you are seeking? Does this program meet the requirements for the licensure or certification you may need? Does the program not meet the requirements for the profession you were hoping to enter?
1. The Pastoral Studies and Criminology and Justice at Loyola University New Orleans
“In this program, students develop a theological and spiritual foundation for their work supporting the transformation of individuals and community.”
I like how they are able to combine religious studies with Criminology, which would be a first for me in all these years.
This place offers online classes, scholarships and has low tuition.
2. Criminology and Criminal Justice, Missouri State University
“A master's degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Missouri State University prepares you to pursue careers, such as:
Federal, state and local law enforcement
Federal, state and county probation and parole
County jails
Federal and state prisons
Juvenile justice organizations
Child victim advocacy
Homeland security
Counter-terrorism"
They offer online classes and low tuition.
3. Social Justice and Criminology, Delta State University
“Our faculty strive to enhance students’ analytical, writing, and presentations skills which are grounded in research and statistical methods and our faculty have expertise in cutting-edge areas of criminology and criminal justice, including student-requested topics such as terrorism, substance use, and the juvenile justice system.”
I love that they understand how closely Social Justice and Criminology are connected, as I have always believed.
They offer scholarships and low tuition.
- Reflect on what draws you to the programs you discussed. What aspects of each program resonate with you personally and professionally? How do you envision these programs helping you achieve your long-term career objectives?
What I found interesting in these programs is that they understand how closely Criminology and the Justice System affects all of our lives on a daily basis, whether we know about it or not. The people we meet on the street and walk past could have just been released from prison or out on parole and we can’t tell. This class will be great because it intertwines and understands how closely we all help people in need in a wide variety of ways and how important all that is to each person. We may never know that we affected them, but they will remember and that is what is most important.
